Discover the Soul of Chilean Wine at our "Meet te Winemaker" event

At Under The Grapevine, wine is more than a drink — it’s a story, a connection, and a reason to gather. Tucked away in the heart of Amsterdam, our wine and coffee shop is a cozy meeting place for expats, locals, and curious explorers alike. This June, we invite you to sip something truly special with us.

We're thrilled to host the next Expat Wine Meet Up by TheSipCircle, featuring Longaví, a groundbreaking collaboration between two winemakers from opposite sides of the world who are redefining Chilean wine. Expect great conversation, exceptional wines, and new friends — all in one unforgettable evening.

Meet the Winemakers Behind Longaví

David Nieuwoudt (South Africa) and Julio Bouchon (Chile) are lifelong winemakers and kindred spirits. Each hails from a celebrated wine family, yet they’ve come together not to rest on legacy — but to explore and elevate the forgotten corners of Chile’s wine country.

Their project, Longaví, is a love letter to old vines, underappreciated grapes, and cool climate terroirs. Together, they’re unearthing the hidden gems of Chile’s wine heritage and bottling them with a fresh, minimalist philosophy.

The Longaví Approach: Old Vines, New Energy

While many Chilean producers focus on big-name grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère, David and Julio are doing the opposite. They're working with:

  • 🌿 100-year-old País vines in the Bío Bío region

  • 🌿 90-year-old Carignan vines in the Maule Valley

Their goal? To express the soul of these historic vines with as little interference as possible. No formulas, no heavy oak — just honest, expressive wines full of life and flavour.

Sip the Unexpected: The 'Glup' Wines

Longaví’s standout range is called ‘Glup’ — a playful nod to the French term glouglou, or "easy sipping". These wines are:

  • 🍷 Fresh, juicy, and fruit-forward

  • 🍷 Light on oak, big on character

  • 🍷 Perfect for relaxed, joyful drinking

They’re not just wines — they’re conversation starters, designed to surprise and delight both casual drinkers and seasoned wine lovers.
