Welcome to Under the Grapevine's Cellar Selection

Great wines deserve to be shared. In our Cellar Selection, we highlight producers and bottles that have genuinely impressed us; wines chosen not because they're fashionable, but because we'd happily open them at our own table. Each selection is a personal recommendation from one of the Under the Grapevine, together with the story behind the wine, tasting notes and, from time to time, an exclusive offer for our members.

Welcome to the very first edition of our Member's Cellar Selection.

Every month I'll introduce a producer or wine that I believe deserves a place in your wine rack. Sometimes it will be a hidden gem, sometimes an established classic, but always a wine I would happily serve to friends around my own table. Rather than chasing trends or scores, these are wines chosen for their character, craftsmanship and the stories behind them. I hope this page inspires you to discover something new.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike's Choice

Every month one of us selects a wine that has genuinely impressed us. This month I'm taking you to Penedès, where Joan Sardà produces elegant, traditional-method Cavas that consistently overdeliver.

This Month's Selection

This month we're travelling to Penedès, the birthplace of Cava, where the Sardà family has been producing traditional-method sparkling wines for generations. Joan Sardà is everything I appreciate in a producer. Family-owned, deeply rooted in its region and focused on quality rather than volume. Their Cavas are elegant, honest and wonderfully food-friendly, proving that exceptional sparkling wine doesn't always have to come from Champagne.

Joan Sardà Brut Nature Reserva

Fresh • Elegant • Dry

A beautifully dry Cava made using the traditional method and aged on its lees to develop extra complexity and finesse. Expect aromas of green apple, citrus zest and white blossom, followed by subtle notes of toasted brioche and roasted almonds. The palate is crisp, lively and beautifully balanced, finishing long and refreshing. Whether you're opening it as an aperitif or serving it alongside oysters, grilled fish or a summer lunch, this is one of those bottles that consistently overdelivers.

Joan Sardà Brut Rosat

Vibrant • Fruity • Refreshing

Made primarily from Garnacha, this Rosé Cava offers a completely different expression while maintaining the same precision and elegance.

Bright aromas of wild strawberries, raspberries and red cherries are complemented by delicate floral notes and a refreshing, dry finish. It is equally at home on a sunny terrace as it is alongside charcuterie, grilled vegetables or Mediterranean cuisine. A wonderfully versatile sparkling wine that shows just how exciting Rosé Cava can be.
