Herència Altés is the passion project of Catalan winemaker Núria Altés, who is breathing new life into Terra Alta—one of Catalonia’s lesser-known but most promising wine regions.
For this wine, Núria sources grapes from organic vineyards around the villages of Batea and Gandesa. The Mediterranean climate, tempered by continental influences, brings cool winters and excellent growing conditions. Two strong local winds naturally ventilate the vines, helping preserve acidity in the grapes and preventing rot or mildew.
The grapes are hand-harvested and pressed with minimal skin contact to preserve their freshness and purity. Only the first press—about 35–40% of the juice—is used. Fermentation is followed by three months of aging on the lees (sur lie), adding subtle texture and complexity to the wine.
